Once the rain settled into Glacier National Park, I headed southbound, chasing the sunshine. Utah had not been a part of my original 2 week travel plan, but I wasn't ready to come home and I figured "what the hell, why not?". Since I had already visited Zion a year before, I decided to hit Bryce Canyon and Arches National Parks for the first time.
The drive from Butte, Montana down to Bryce Canyon is 9.5 hours, so I settled in for a long day of driving. Luckily, I had great tunes and plenty of podcasts downloaded to keep me occupied during the day, not to mention gorgeous scenery in Montana, Idaho, and finally Utah.
I reached Bryce Canyon National Park by late afternoon and had time to drive through some of the park before settling in for the evening. Throughout most of the trip, temperatures had been in the 70's during the day and 40's at night, but it was 95 degrees in Bryce Canyon when I arrived. I wasn't thrilled about spending the night sleeping in the heat, so I decided to spend the night in a cabin at a KOA campground that night.
Y'all, after going without a shower for over a week and sleeping in my SUV, this little cabin with a wall unit A/C felt like the lap of luxury. I took a shower, put on my PJ's, cracked a beer, and watched the sun set over the High Plateaus. I slept in my sleeping bag on top of a plastic bed mat that night. These small comforts felt downright opulent after car camping. It was heaven!
